I'm thinking about getting a prepaid phone for the car in case of emergencies (I had a flat the other week on I-75 going up to visit the 'rents, can't remember if I posted about that). Any suggestions?

I also need to remember to get a new bag of kitty litter to put in the trunk, had to actually use the one I had in there for its intended purpose when I found Bampf!.

Hmmmm, might as well pick up some more fleece blankets as well. Stupid winter, it feels like it should still be September. I'm going to be doing a lot of driving in the next month. Bah.

Eh, if it was the warm months I'd be complaining about not being able to breathe.

be carefull with some of the prepaid thingees... they have this loop.. say you buy 60 minutes on one and put it in your car. you have a time period that you have to say use it once maybe like 6 months otherwise you will forfeit all the minutes...even though you paid for it... it is like you must use it or you lose it. you just can't put it in a drawer and forget about it... kind of a bum deal cause you did pay for it.. but that is how they keep you coming back for more minutes.

oh... and if you find a pretty recent cell phone... even though say the service is cancelled... if you keep the phone charged and ready to go (even without service) all the newer ones are by law made to still be able to call 911 ever WITHOUT service. i gave my old cingular wireless phone (after cancelling) to my parents with the charger.. the phone was in good condition and if they keep it charged.. in emergencies it still calls 911.

thing is, by 'emergency' I mean "crap, I need to call a towtruck" and I don't want to be calling 911 for that unless my next thought is "and I must get the tire changed because Jason is after me!", otherwise I'd go the route you just mentioned. -sigh-

I researched this extensively.

If you go with t-mobile, you get the most minutes for your money and no extra fees. the minutes do expire, but if you add minutes on, all minutes get the new expiration date. so say you got a $25 card, and it expires in 6 months...in 5 months and 29 days, you can add a $5 card and all your minutes would roll over to the $5 card's expiration date.

verizon charges a dolla a day every day you use the phone and that's ON TOP of minutes you have to buy. virgin mobile has a wad of extra fees. tracphone minutes are really expensive. congular go phone charges the fee for using the phone, too.

*heart*
